i'm confident that debian.org contains every answer to every
question everybody ever asks here. same for the docs on my
currnet linux installation.

<grumble>
FINDING what i'm looking for, there's the rub. website needs new
structure.  newbie-friendly. focus on addressing answers to
questions, not presenting behind-the-scenes structure.
