Where can I start?

Hi,

[ PS: my apologies for making this questions here, I feel more at home on a
debian- list -- and my final goal is to get Debian installed

Please Cc: mmagallo@debian.org, I'm not the list... hmmm... yet? ;-) ]

I've got a grip of one Ultra Enterprise 1 (there's an Ultra 10, but that's
off-limits right now) where I can install Linux, but I'd like to know where
to start. In the future, time constrains relaxed a bit (I hope!!!), I'd
like to try building debs there, but I have to get Linux running first.
What I need to know is how to install the system (well, I kinda understand
that, after reading the docs), but a couple of questions are still bugging
 me:

 * I have a copy of UltraPenguin 1.0.9 (a local sunsite here has a copy of
that); reading the docs at ultra.linux.cz, they talk about version 1.0
and 1.0 (yes, twice). One is libc5 and the other libc6 (that's 2.1.100
   from what I've read on -devel). On the ftp server there's 1.0 and 1.1;
what should I download? Stability is not even a requirement. I'm willing
   to see the system crash.

 * If I download anything, should I burn that straight onto a CD? Any layout
changes I need to know about? (Gosh, do I hate RH or what! Why can't they
put a decent doc specifying these things?) What should go on the root
directory of the CD? Is rockridge ok, a requirement, not necessary?

 * In this I-have-yet-to-understand-RH-layout for ftp sites, what is
   necessary? They only have:

   lftp ftp.ulatina.ac.cr:/Linux/DISTRIBUCIONES/UltraPenguin-1.0.9> ls

What should go on a CD? Is this enough? Is this too old?

I have other questions on my mind, but everything's so blurry right now...

 TIA,
