Same happens, when converting the file to ps and try to open it using gv, so it could be a bug in gs too. Do you eventually know, when it broke (e.g. after update xx.yy.zzzz)?Inclusion of color.tex and calling \pscircle. plain tex compiled ok with >tex test.tex and created test.dvi But running xdvi on generated test.dvi file results in gs error. If we remove the \input color line, every thing works ok.
Unfortunately we (debian-tex) don't have the man power to track that issue down to the root cause and submit it @correct upupstream. If you need a solution in a foreseeable time, please be so kind to contact your local TUG and ask them for help.
