Hi Nicolas,

big thanks for your work, that is very much appreciated!
I have applied *all* of your patches besides one, the switch to python3.
I am not sure what the recommended way here is, so I would like to
discuss this before applying. The other items are all very fine and I
appreciated your help a lot!!!
