Package: texlive-lang
Version: 2007.dfsg.3-1
Severity: normal

The names of some of the packages provided by texlive-lang are very
confusing. For instance, «texlive-lang-spanish» clearly refers to a single
language, but includes hyphen patterns for other languages such as Catalan
and Galician[1]. Similarly, «texlive-lang-french» contains Basque.

I don't really get the rationale behind the package names. Mixing languages
and countries is wrong, so please provide packages for each of these
languages.

Also, it would be interesting to know what's so different between the
languages that have their own package and other languages that are included
in a collection package (such as «texlive-lang-other»). (Sorry if I missed
it, but I couldn't find relevant documentation in the source package.)

Thanks.

 1. And even worse, these languages aren't mentioned in the package
description. That means someone looking for Catalan or Galician will not
    find any meaningful results.

This is an ancient bug and nobody has stepped forward to suggest
better collection names to TeX Live, thus, as we will surely keep
the naming of the Debian packages in line with upstream, I am
closing this bug.
