This fails for me as well on several different autobuilders
under stretch. I've put my build logs here, they are made
with "dpkg-buildpackage -A":

Moreover, this also fails in the reproducible builds autobuilders:

Unfortunately, we can't check what happened in the official
autobuilders last time because you didn't upload in source-only form:

(Please try to build in source-only form next time).

Based on all the above, I think it is objectively a fact that the
package FTBFS, so I'm raising the severity accordingly.

Please try to reproduce it using sbuild. If you absolutely need it, I
could even offer you access to a machine where this happens (please
contact me privately for details), but based on the number of
different and independent autobuilders on which it fails, I would be
surprised that it would be necessary at all.
