It is TeX internatl encoding, ... which resembles it. I can out of my head

As long as you don't load it into platex as I have shown you in the 
example code, it is fine. I think ...

BTW, you might consult with tex-hyphen@tug.org about inclusion in
hyph-utf8, which would make it simpler. Doing it *soon* would 
make it possible to get it automatically for everyone in TeX Live 2012.
