That is probably again with a missing modes.mf. Bummer.
You can fix it manuall by doing
cp /usr/share/texlive-base/modes.mf /etc/texmf/metafont/misc/modes.mf
and then call
dpkg-configure -a
Hope that helps. But honestly I don't see why it happened ...
When did you remove old tetex packages?
Did you upgrade to the temp tetex packages with versions 2007 something?
