Do you have an idea of the work and consequences of this?

Please read the definition of "Depends", the majority of the package
works. And some obsolete file does not disturb the functionality of
that.

I'm putting this to wishlist, if one of us finds time between important
bugs we will maybe fix it.

You forgot variant 4: Stop using a4wide.sty and a4.sty ...
