Bug#488552: luatex -ini latex.ini doesn't work in virtual console

Hello,

  I installed luatex on my system, and I followed the instructions in 
  README.Debian to get it working with latex, now when I run:

luatex -ini latex.ini

  I get no errors, yet no .fmt file is generated. I found out that the 
  reason was that I was running that command while in virtual console, 
  yet if I run it from a gnome-terminal, I do get a .fmt output.
