For etch+1? IMO teTeX 3 (plus maybe some updates) should still be ok
when etch is released (at least if that happens during, say, the next
half year), but after that, it would really show its age. Since teTeX
looks to be really dead by now,¹ I am not sure it would make sense to
keep it as default for etch+1, though.
On a related note: Should we submit something for the Etch release
notes? It might be worth noting that a new TeX distribution has entered
Debian and that many of its packags are compatible with existing teTeX
packages. Depending on the long term planing one could also suggest
switching to TeX Live.
1 IE, not only Thomas is no longer working on it, but there also seems
to be no successor.
