Now that's strange.  I can see no difference between the displays,

So let's try to find out what's happening with fonts on your system.
Please do the following:

rm t1lib.log
xdvi -debug 35171 test.dvi 2>xdvi.2.log >xdvi.1.log

and send us xdvi.1.log, xdvi.2.log and, if it exists, t1lib.log.
