Thank you.

When I updated on wednesday I had no such problems:

$ apt-cache policy tetex-bin
tetex-bin:
  Installed: 3.0-14bpo1
  Candidate: 3.0-14bpo1
  Version Table:
 *** 3.0-14bpo1 0
        500 http://people.debian.org sarge/main Packages
        200 http://www.backports.org sarge-backports/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.0.2-30sarge4 0
        500 http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/main Packages
     2.0.2-30 0
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org sarge/main Packages

I haven't yet switched to xorg, but IIRC, there are some interesting
improvements for my graphics card in there, so I might do that in the
near future anyway. I don't think that other dependencies from
backports.org would pose any problem for me.
