with spaces.
/etc/texmf/fmt.d/40xmltex.cnf.dpkg-new contains:
xmltex etex language.dat &latex xmltex.ini
pdfxmltex pdfetex language.dat &pdflatex pdfxmltex.ini
with tabs.
