Hi Frank, I had an opportunity to install tetex from experimental on a machine with purged tetex and no /usr/share/texmf, /etc/tetex, and /var/lib/texmf. It all went well, except for these definitions in texmf.cnf TEXMFDIST = /usr/share/texmfMAIN TEXMFLOCAL = /usr/share/texmf-local VARTEXFONTS = /var/spool/texmf /var/spool/texmf is not defined and therefore bitmap fonts can not be used. Local stuff is not found. Hope this helps. Eythan
