`revtex4.cls' not found

I have the following problem and thought you might be able to help.
I have unstable debian distribution with tetex-bin, base,extra
installed.
tetex-extra provides revtex4.cls and I can see it. If I run latex as
root,
the class is found, but if I run it as regular user, I get the error
that
the revtex4.cls is not found.
It appears that there is some sort of a configuration problem, but I
can not find what the problem is. The only thing I can say is that I
have another system with unstable and everything works fine there.
If some one could suggest anything I would be very grateful.
