No, no need for the copy, and it's something else.

/usr/share/texmt-tetex is missing here.  Can you please send us the
output of the following commands:

grep '^TEXMF =' /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf
grep '^TEXMF =' /etc/texmf/texmf.d/*
grep 'amsptex' /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf
grep 'amsptex' /etc/texmf/texmf.d/*
