Bug#334660: I have the same problem on updating tetex-bin

unfortunately I needed a working tex system, sorry. I found this quick
fix:
cp /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf.dpkg-dist /etc/texmf/
dpkg --force-all --configure -a
[not that, during the upgrade, I had asked not to overwrite the
texmf.cnf that has been locally modified]
That did it for me, and I cannot reproduce the bug anymore.
