By the way: It seems to me that dvipdfm development is really slow, if
not dead.  On the other hand there is dvipdfmx (taylored for far-east
8bit languages) which is quite actively developed.  We should probably
also notify them of the bug (ideally after checking wether it applies
there).  And sooner or later we should do this with all the dvipdfm bugs
that have been forwarded to upstream; there's at least one I remember.
