Bug#321094: tetex-bin: Usage of some fonts fails

Subject: tetex-bin: Usage of some fonts fails
Package: tetex-bin
Version: 3.0-5.0.sarge1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
I have some fonts installed for TeX that worked without any problems
before upgrading to teTeX 3.0. The corresponding map files are found
but compiling documents using those fonts fails. That means a output
file is generated but without any symbols. For example MinionPro:

%--font-test.tex--------
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{MinionPro}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\begin{document}
test
\end{document}
%------------------------

chris@lotus:~/ztl$ pdflatex font-test.tex
...
(./font-test.aux) (/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/ts1cmr.fd)
[1{/var/lib/texmf
/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map}] (./font-test.aux)kpathsea:
Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 0+545/600 --dpi 545
MinionPro-Regular-osf-t--base1
mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for
MinionPro-Regular-osf-t--base1.
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
 )
Warning: pdflatex (file MinionPro-Regular-osf-t--base1): Font
MinionPro-Regular
-osf-t--base1 at 545 not found

chris@lotus:~/ztl$ kpsewhich MinionPro.map
/home/chris/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/MinionPro/MinionPro.map

Everything else according to MinionPro is also installed in $TEXMFHOME.

But I have also installed Frutiger under the same conditions:

chris@lotus:~/ztl$ kpsewhich bfr.map
/home/chris/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/bfr.map

And everything else according to Frutiger is installed in $TEXMFHOME.

Compiling

%--font-test.tex--------
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{bfrutiger}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\begin{document}
\sffamily test
\end{document}
%------------------------

succeeds:

chris@lotus:~/ztl$ pdflatex font-test.tex
...
(./font-test.aux)
(/home/chris/texmf/tex/latex/bfr/t1bfr.fd)
[1{/var/lib/texmf/fonts/map/pdftex/u
pdmap/pdftex.map}] (./font-test.aux) )
</var/cache/fonts/pk/ljfour/jknappen/ec/
ecrm1000.600pk>{/usr/share/texmf/fonts/enc/dvips/psnfss/8r.enc}</home/chris/tex
mf/fonts/type1/bitstrea/frutiger/bfrr8a.pfb>

updmap succeeds, too, all map files are found. I don't have a glue
what's going wrong here. These are only two examples. It applies to
some other fonts, too (Bera works, Gill Sans, Birka, TheSans,
Bodoni, ... don't). But I can't find the difference---and they all
worked before upgrading. Maybe I'm just too dumb ... I attach the
files in updmap.d and updmap.cfg.
