Did you purge your installation before or did you just remove? If the
latter: Please make sure, that the file language.dat has been
removed. Actually I don't know, where it is located, but it shold be
below /etc/texmf. No, it is not that one below
/etc/texmf/platex/ .

Well he doesn't find the file dkhyph.tex, which the language.dat
refers to. Commenting out the related line in language.dat should fix
the problem. However I don't have any clue, how the line could go
into that file, as tetex-base does not deliver that file and it can't
even be found on CTAN.
We deliver the file dkhyphen.tex, which should have is own line in
the language.dat.

Does updmap still fails and if yes, which error message?
