I assume that this is a pdftex issue. And if you really think it should
be optimized, I guess you have to contact pdftex upstream developers. In
my personal opinion, there are much more important things to do in
pdftex than optimizing filesizes for a couple of bytes. You also have to
take into account the need in CPU time this would probably take.

This bug has been closed again, and I am happy with this - if you insist
on reopening, I'd tag it wontfix. At most I'd be willing to forward this
to upstream - but without any enthusiasm, rather with an apology for
raising such minor concerns. So you'd better contact them yourself.
