To be able to rip the whole font from the PDF file ? (no, *I* wouldn't
know how to do that)

You can chose not to embed a font at all, which could perhaps be useful
(to save space...) in environments where a lot of small PDF files are
generated by a program... You can still use /usr/local, but you will not
be made aware of changes in the map files shipped by the package that
should be reflected in your copy under /usr/local.

So, now that I have run remove-oldmaps in my sid chroot, my
/etc/texmf/dvips/lm.map is starting to feel a bit lonely. :-)
