I get the same error message if I delete listings.sty from
/usr/local/share/texmf/tex/latex/listings, but "forget" to also delete
lstpatch.sty. You probably have your own version of the listings package
somewhere in $LOCALTEXMF or $HOMETEXMF - the version in
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/listings has been updated with the new
"upstream" tarball.
After you've found it, would you be so kind and close the bug?
