Yes. Sorry for answering after such a long delay. I was applying for
permanent research positions and I've been traveling across the France all
month long.

In fact, I had chosen the second solution a long time ago. Some friends of
mine and I are maintaining a debian package (figlatex) that includes a short
LaTeX package (texgraphicx.sty) extending graphicx. It is available here :

  deb http://dept-info.labri.fr/~danjean/debian/ sid main

But only some colleagues are using it. You're right. I'm going to upload it
on CTAN and made it available to more people. I can close the bug if you
want. I had used the BTS because it was the easiest way to propose this
modification but your other suggestions are much more reasonnable.
