That's very true (xdvi might also exit with an allocation error).

Contributions and improvements are really welcome, but please
don't base them on the antique 22.4x version. The current version
of xdvik is 22.82 (see e.g. http://xdvi.sourceforge.net/ or the
screenshots at http://xdvi.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html)
which is also contained in current tetex-beta.

The current version doesn't have buttons any more, but pulldown
menus, which contain an entry zoom in/out; the accelerator for
these is Ctrl-+/Ctrl--, and the keys `[' and `]' are by default
bound to jump back and forward in the page history (another new
feature), and it also contains a check for the shrink maximum ...

Other major new features in 22.82 are: a page list for easier
navigation; Help and (in Motif) a Preferences window; printing
and saving in PS/PDF/TXT format; string search in DVI files;
completely overhauled Motif interface with a Toolbar and
Preferences windows, etc.

Best,
Stefan
