When is that symlink created?

For some reason it's a binary on my system:

$ ls -l /usr/bin/xdvi*
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         3140 Mar  4 16:35 /usr/bin/xdvi
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       221976 Aug 31  2003 /usr/bin/xdvi.bin
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       237848 Mar  4 16:36 /usr/bin/xdvi.real
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         1500 Mar  4 16:35 /usr/bin/xdvizilla

$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/xdvi.bin
dpkg: /usr/bin/xdvi.bin not found.

$ dpkg -l tetex-bin xdvik-ja

Last year I tried to get prelink working and it was a
fiasco, causing lots of problems with symlinks and hardlinks
to binaries. It is possible this is left over from that.
But I've upgraded tetex several times since then...
