Bug#204953: tetex-bin upgrade fails during configure

Hi Kai,

last summer you reported the following bug to the Debian BTS. We
apologize for not having answered at all - at that time there were a
couple of related problems, and probably everybody thought it would
resolve itself once the other bugs were fixed.

Unfortunately the script you sent is not readable. It seems this is
because texconfig tried to ask some question using dialog.

What I would like to know - if you happen to remember - is whether you
did actually see any dialog windows (the ones debconf usually shows), or
not at all. But most probably this isn't the real cause of the bug:

I tried to dig out the readable strings from the script, they were:

teTeX setup utility # the title of the dialog box
Could not find default config file for dvipdfm (config).

This must be caused by the failure of the following command:

test -f $dvipdfm_conf_dir/config || {
  exist_test -f "$TC_DFT_DVIPDFM_CFG" "default config file for dvipdfm (config)"

Which means that either the symbolic link

/usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config -> /etc/texmf/dvipdfm

or the file

/etc/texmf/dvipdfm/config

didn't exist.

Does that remind you of anything? Do you still have problems currently?
Do you think we can still find out something about the problems you had
then?

I'd be glad to hear from you,
Frohe Ostern,
Frank
