Bug#111365: fmtutils broken

Hi Joey,

in summer we have picked up again this old bug; you have kept a backup
of the system from the time when the bug occured and provided some
information. You haven't answered the next questions that we had - can
you still help us with this? Or should we rather close the bug? (Or wait
until Christmas is over, or 3.0r4 is out or whatever?)

This would be really helpful

Thanks, Frank
