As you've noticed, I reported that bug to ctan <at> ctan.org. It
seems as if the problem will be solved soon and we'll have a singular
and bug free version in teTeX 3.0.

Means, we would have to change .orig.tar.gz? I'd rather suggest to
put the unbroken file into diff.gz and cp -f it into the tree during
build.
