This is a wishlist thing that will be fixed when tetex-3.0 enters the
archive. (Probably tetex-3.0 will not enter sarge). utf8 didn't work
upstream when tetex-2.0 was released, and backporting is not feasible.

Then it is a bug in muttprint. Until tetex-3 is available, it has to
take care for proper recoding of the input. You cannot rely on things
that work with packages on CTAN if they're not in tetex's upstream yet.
