ivritex: Type1 (culmus) fonts installation

Hi

I maintain the package ivritex (Baruch Even , the maintainer of its
Dabian Package is CC-ed). I would like to hear your advice with
regarding a problem I have with the package.

Background:
""""""""""
The package ivritex consists of:
1. Hebrew language support through Babel
2. Hebrew fonts. Separate fonts are required, as Hebrew uses a different
   charset.
3. Some extra useful (?) styles and classes for Hebrew.

Originally it used a set of named "hebfonts" (after the ctan package
hebfont). This package contains some Hebrew metafonts of varying
quality, glyph-coverage and liecnses.

In the recent Years a high-quality Type1 fonts package called Culmus was
developed by Maxim Iorsh. It is distributed under the GPL and already
contained in the debian package "culmus" (Thanks to Baruch Even, again).

Adding culmus fonts support to ivritex has thus the following
atvantages:

1. Good fonts. Fonts you can use in decent papers
2. less disk space needed, if font files are reused
3. avoid a silly licensing issue with the old fonts

Problem
"""""""
I could not figure how to install extra Type1 fonts on a tetex system.

One crude attempt can be found at ftp://iglu.org.il/pub/Hebrew/HebLatex/
(The packages called ivritex-1.2). In the last couple of monthes I did
not have time for this package, but lately I decided to try again. The
debs there are by me, as I use debain unstable at home.

This still fails to install: usually dvi2ps works, but there are problems
with the dvi file when viewed with xdvi. So I figure I'd try to
concentrate on Debian first, as Debian provides a homogenic and
up-to-date environment for me.

BTW: I'd rather have the babel files be added to Babel in the tetex
package. Latest babel already includes a version quite similar to those
files.

Any help would be appreciated.
