Bug#238627: ps2pk fails to generate font (and is outdated)

Hi Thomas,

in our Debian BTS we have a bug report that mktexpk doesn't generate a
font. It seems to boil down that ps2pk does not respect the setting of
the T1INPUTS variable, as it should from its manpage:

frank@alhambra:~$ locate bp5ri8a.afm
/home/frank/Privat/Hochzeit/Einladung/bp5ri8a.afm
frank@alhambra:~$ T1INPUTS=Privat/Hochzeit/Einladung ps2pk -v bp5ri8a
ps2pk: AFM file bp5ri8a.afm not found!
frank@alhambra:~$ 

Also, the -d and -v options don't have the effect I expect from the
source. 

Note also that

- the fpt server, ftp.urc.tue.nl, given in the README file doesn't exist

- there is a new version 1.5 (and a beta 1.6) on
  ftp://ftp.tue.nl/pub/tex/
