Re: Processed: texconfig should not stop when unimportant files are missing
You might wonder what this meant -

I had sent a copy to 232725@bugs.debian, but strangely that TLD didn't
exist... So here comes the mail I wrote to the teTeX mailing list:
Hi Thomas, hi teTeXnicians, hi Lars,
texconfig is quite strict in it's checking whether files are
available. We found this out because Lars had messed up his /etc/X11
directory and therefore lost /etc/X11/app-defaults/XDvi (in Debian:
ls -l /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/XDvi
.. /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/XDvi -> /etc/X11/app-defaults/XDvi
)
There was no copy left kpathsea could find, and therefore texconfig
refuses to do anything.
I think that texconfig should issue a warning in this (and similar)
cases, but not fail completely. This might be especially important if
somebody configures --without-x. I don't know whether XDvi is installed
at all in this case, but I wouldn't be surprised if such a user does a
rm -rf /etc/X11 if he finds this directory.
What do you think?
Regards, Frank
