I'm putting the bug address and Frank Mittelbach's
latex-project.org-address back into the Cc.

Have you noticed that index.sty (the one that used to be a latex2.0.9
package) has been updated? It's now in macros/latex/contrib/index and
seems to be a \LaTeX2e package. It seems as if this problem can be filed
under "durch Zeitablauf erledigt", and you can include the new one into
the next tetex release.
