Do you still have this problem? It comes from the fact that hyperref
tries to create bookmarks (the panel on the left in acroread), but only
for standard sectioning commands it knows by itself on which level to
put them (put "mypara" between subsubsection and subparagraph, e.g.).

Either the bookmark level was defined by some RedHat special package, or
it was in a TEXMF directory in /usr/{share/}local or $HOME which you
missed to copy.

Which package is it that defines xchapter?
