Hi,

Apparently there are TWO `language.dat' configuration files:
one in the directory `/var/lib/texmf' (the teTeX way, I suppose)
one in the directory `/etc/texmf' (the Debian way)

As a matter of fact the one taken in account is the one in
the `/var/lib/texmf' directory as
`/usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat' is linked to `/var/lib/texmf/language.dat', I guess that, according to the Debian
policy it should be linked to `/etc/texmf/language.dat'.

Note that before the last upgrade every worked fine.

The language.dat is from now on maintained using debconf (if you
answered that question with yes, which is the default). Hence
language.dat is sitting in /var/lib and everything is OK.

I have just reconfigure the `tetex-bin' package
(`dpkg-reconfigure tetex-bin'): I got debconf
indeed. I do not remember to get it before.

I am mainly concern with backup:
Is there a `debconf' data file for `language.dat'
somewhere in `/etc' ?

Beside, just for information,
I can not compose the latest `lshort' LaTeX manual.

Any specific error message?

the version 4.12 `lshort' uses the `eurofont.sty' which
is not distributed as well the font data files that it uses.

I hope that helps,
