Hallo Thomas,

After Andreas Tille has reported this as a bug, on the list of
maintainers of Debian's tetex package we wondered why tetex has chosen
to load hyphenation patterns for french, german and ngerman by default
(tetex-texmf-2.0.2/tex/generic/config/language.dat), but not, e.g.,
spanish or polish. Somewhat germano- and gallocentristic ;-)

Andreas was puzzled that he couldn't chose german among the extra
hyphenation patterns in the package configuration, see

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=3D204459

for further information. Citing him:

,----
| Please make clear the relevance of loading exactly these languages and not
| others. In fact I personally would neither load french nor ngerman (sorr=
y,
| I stick to old German writing rules) and others might like to remove all
| these three. Moreover I see no relevance to keep Spanish out from this
| list because I guess it is at least as much used as French and German (ot=
her
| languages might be the same
`----

Is there a special consideration behind it? If not, we can just leave
them out in our package and add them to the list of extra languages,
since we ask the user anyway. But we would like to be sure that we
aren't missing something important.

Would you be so kind and keep the Cc: when you answer?

Thank you very much,

Frank
