At the time postinst hangs, please check;
- does /tmp/updm* exist and if exists what contents is it?
- does /etc/texmf/updmap.d/00updmap.cfg exit?
- does /etc/texmf/updmap.cfg exits?
- does /etc/texmf/dvips/ contain several *.map files?
what happens if you modified /var/lib/dpkg/info/tetex-base.postinst
(line #58) as
${UPDMAP} -v && \
/usr/bin/updmap --cnffile ${MAPCFG} --outputdir /etc/texmf/dvips
(add "&& \" and remove "2> ${MAPTEMP}" too)
and run "/var/lib/dpkg/info/tetex-base.postinst" ?
