These version numbers are similar to the ones currently in unstable. The
problem is you need a version number that dpkg considers to be greater
than 1.0.7 but smaller than 2.

The main reason for switching to pretest teTeX instead of staying with
1.0.2/1.0.7 was that is was more easy to report non-free files to Thomas
and to package the latest pretest than removing all non-free files
manually. Unfortunately Debian 3.0 was frozen long before teTeX will be
released. My personal impression is that teTeX 2.0 will be released before
the freeze of Debian 3.1 with the result that Debian 3.1 will ship with
teTeX 2.0. My personal opinion is that it would be good if you'd follow
the latest pretest teTeX sources for tetex-bin/tetex-base/tetex-src to be
able to find and report bugs before teTeX 2.0 is released. One example for
such a bug is that I noticed libkpathsea lost it's so-name [sic] when
installing private quick&dirty packages of the 20020901 pretest.

FYI some observations I made with 20020901 pretest:
- libkpathsea lost it's so-name (I'e asked Thomas regarding this but I'm
  waiting for an answer)
- omega is not in 20020901 pretest (but AFAIR it will be in teTeX 2.0)
- the following packages are now included in teTeX (Conflicts&Replaces is
needed and the packages need to be removed from unstable when a new
  teTeX pretest enters Debian unstable):
    mfpic + texdoctk + pxfonts + txfonts
- texdoctk needs the patches from the current texdoctk Debian package
- texdoctk wants to install it's configuration files at
  /usr/share/texmf/texdoctk

You only think this is a free country. Like the US the UK spends a lot of
time explaining its a free country because its a police state.
