Today i retried installing teTeX on my Debian GNU woody system. This system is kept up-to-date except for teTeX because of the big downloads it gave. I have tried updating several time, always failing with an post-inst message saying:
Setting up tetex-bin (1.0.7+20000807-5) ...
mktexlsr: Updating /var/lib/texmf/ls-R...
mktexlsr: Done.
/usr/bin/texconfig: No $TEXMFMAIN in texmf.cnf file.
/usr/bin/texconfig: set TEXMFCNF variable to the directory where teTeX's texmf.cnf file is in.
dpkg: error processing tetex-bin (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
I have looked in /etc/texmf/, but found no /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf file there.
Today i first removed the complete teTeX from my system and tried reinstalling. I do get the same error: No $TEXMFMAIN in texmf.cnf file.
Investigating this, i found that during the unpack fase of the installation, there are a lot of files created in /etc/texmf, but after configuring, these files are gone. The only files remaining are /etc/texmf/dvips/dvips.pdf and the directory /etc/texmf/pdftex.
The debs are upacked and configured in the following order:
tetex-base 1.0.3+200000804-3 (success)
tetex-lib 1.0.7.20000807-5 (success)
tetex-bin 1.0.7+20000807-5 (FAILURE)
