/usr/share/texmf/doc should be a symlink as

~$ ls -ld /usr/share/texmf/doc
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           20 2002-12-02 14:44 /usr/share/texmf/doc -> /usr/share/doc/texmf/

So ivirtex should use not /usr/share/texmf/doc
but /usr/share/doc/texmf
