Package: tetex-base
Version: 1.0.2+20011202-2
Severity: important

-- System Information
Debian Release:
Architecture: i386
Kernel: Linux tux 2.4.3 #1 Thu Jan 3 18:37:52 CST 2002 i686
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C

Versions of packages tetex-base depends on:
ii dpkg 1.9.18 Package maintenance system for Deb
ii texinfo 4.0b-2 Documentation system for on-line i

Also related is pdftex in tetex-bin. I have version
1.0.7+20011202 of this package as well.

When I use pdftex or pdflatex, it complains that it cannot find
pdftex.map, and the output is so poor that it is unusable (the
document fonts look bad, whether viewed in acroread, gv, or even
on a Windows machine with Acrobat Reader).

When I change the "map" setting in /etc/texmf/pdftex/pdftex.cfg from:

    map pdftex.map

to:

    map /etc/texmf/dvips/pdftex.map

pdftex finds the map file and everything works. I don't know
why, but I have an older version of tetex-bin and tetex-base
installed on my machine at home, the setting does _not_ contain
the full path, and it works fine. Here are the versions at home:

    tetex-base: 1.0.2+20000804
    tetex-bin: 1.0.7+20001218

Through communication with the reporter, it seems that
the problem is fixed with mktelsr so this is not a bug
of tetex-base.

So I closed this bug.
