The package has this:
Conflicts: kpathsea, texlib, textfm, babel, bibtex, texpsfnt, mfbasfnt, mfnfss, xdvik, amsfonts, amstex, amslatex, ltxmisc, ltxtool, psnfss, mfnfss, mfdcfnt, mflib, pandora, hyperref, tetex-french
Replaces: kpathsea, texlib, textfm, latex, babel, bibtex, texidoc, texpsfnt, mfbasfnt, mfnfss, xdvik, amsfonts, amstex, amslatex, ltxmisc, ltxtool, psnfss, mfnfss, mfdcfnt, mflib, pandora, hyperref, tetex-base, tetex-french, tetex-nonfree
In order to have dpkg upgrade that correctly, you have to add
Pre-Depends: dpkg (>= 1.6.8)
to the control file, since only versions including and after 1.6.8 have
support for multiple Conflicts: and Replaces:.
