Well, please someone test this once again and if there is
no problem I will close this bug.

What you should do is;

- copy ptmb8a.afm, ptmbi8a.afm, ptmr8a.afm, ptmri8a.afm to
some working directory. These are in /usr/share/texmf/fonts/afm/adobe/times/
or /usr/share/fonts/afms/adobe/ (I forgot which one I used)

- do 'tex fontinst.sty' in that working directory.

- tex will stop with the prompt '*' so type '\latinfamily{ptm}{} \bye' like

*\latinfamily{ptm}{} \bye

Then if there is no problem it goes like

INFO> parse family <ptm><>
INFO> to make LaTeX font shape <ptm,m,n,> seek ptmr8r.mtx
INFO> run \transformfont  <ptmr8r> from <ptmr8a>
(ptmr8a.afm)
Metrics written on ptmr8a.mtx.
(ptmr8a.mtx)
...

but if there is the problem then it will stop immediately.

Thanks in advance.		 2000.8.1
