Well, the 'texdoc fntguide' says, that \DeclareFontEncoding sets a
variable so that \LastDeclaredEncoding can reference it. (See also
/usr/doc/tetex-base/texmf/latex/base/changes.txt). This seams not to
be true for jadetex.
