I received the reply from them.

It seems a side effect of other changes and we need to add
\protect before \\ (yes, \\ is fragile commands) as

\author{Atsuhito Kohda \protect\\ Tokushima University}

and it really works fine.

This will be described in future amsclass.faq as follows
