Just had another look at fmtutil and fmtutil.cnf. It seems that
fmtutil will die when it hits the first format which cannot be
generated. Good job tex/latex come first....
We really ought to get fmtutil to try to generate *all* of the
requested formats, even if some of them fail. I'll write a patch if
that's useful....
