Apologies if I was unclear; the problem is as follows:

When I run xdvi on a .dvi file it does the following:

"kpathsea: Running mktexp --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 1+100 dpi
cmbx12"
"mktexp: [above font] already exists."

and so on for numerous other fonts, all of which exists. I have made
ls-R writable by everyone but this doesn't alter things.

On a big file this takes quite a long time.

I wasn't sure if this was correct or not, but several correspondents
have told me that it is not the correct behaviour, so I reported it as a
bug. If it *is* the expected behaviour, please accept my apologies.
