This puts it well. I have no idea what bug this message is talking about, and I have nothing to do with this. Why am I in this chain? Apparently because of a "serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere"? I hope this note can help fix it!

Dear Maintainer,

upgraded to buster via apt-get upgrade, apt-get dist-upgrade, all worked well up to here.
Booting gave black screen.
Reboot with old kernel 4.9 --> all is well.
Set system to go into multi-user (without graphics): Same effect.
Thus it must be related to the framebuffer screen setting at boot, rather than xserver-xorg.
Will attach working and non-working X.org.log below
